Now we have decided to get married in Italy, there's just the small matter of how to get there.

Well, to help make your travel planning as painless as possible, we've put together some info, set out below, on planes, trains and automobiles.

If once you've had a look, you're still in doubt, then give us a shout (but not before 8am (11am on a weekend) or after 10pm, as Lou will most probably be sleeping... read, definitely sleeping).

Getting There

Flights from t'up North

Pisa (PSA) is the closest airport to Villa Catureglio and is roughly a 45 minute drive.

On a daily basis throughout August, except Tuesdays, Jet2 fly in and out of Pisa from Manchester Airport, Terminal 1.  Or a bit closer to home, RyanAir also fly in and out to Pisa from East Midlands on a Wednesday and Sunday.

Jet2 also fly from Newcastle to Pisa, so ya can always gan up the Toon and have a cannie neet on the tiles before you stumble, steaming, on to your flight (haway, it's what the Geordies would do man... ha ha... ha ha... ha ha... (Spuggie, Byker Grove, 1992)).

Flights from London Town

If you are flying from London, RyanAir cram cramped customers on at Stansted on a daily basis, before shipping them over to Pisa, Italia.  Flights are on sale now and are retailing for a little over £100 return per person.  So get clucking booking!

Easy Jet also fly to Pisa from London Gatwick, but these are a little more expensive and are currently available for around £150.00 return.

You can also fly in to Florence airport, which is around an hour and twenty minutes drive from Villa Catureglio.  The scenery en route is stunning!  It might be an idea to pop over to Pisa, before flying out of Florence to see the sights.  We are!

Car Hire

To make the most of the cracking countryside, we highly recommend hiring a car.  Car hire can be arranged online through Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Budget etc, for very easy collection at Pisa Airport.  In our experience, the smaller and cheaper cars get booked up pretty quickly in peak season, so we would recommend that you get in there early to get the best rates.

As mentioned, The Villa is around 30 miles or a 45 minute drive from Pisa and around 60 miles from Florence.  The drive from both airports take you through some beautiful countryside and although at times the Italians can be rather wild on the roads, we found driving to be pretty painless.

FY to the I, the road to the Villa from Borgo a Mozzano wriggles narrowly up the hill, through sharp and sometimes steep twists and turns, so please drive carefully.  This is also where a small car can come in handy (or a four wheel drive).

A note on the insurance.  Most companies offer excess insurance which may seem like a cheeky way of earning a little more money. However, we spoke directly with the company we hired from, who put our minds at ease and assured us that, for a little bit more lira, it was well worth having.  As you may know, we do have form for swerving minor (read major) disasters when hiring cars abroad, so for us it was a no brainer, but obviously the decision is all yours.

For those who plan to use a sat nav, the address for the venue is as follows:

Localita Catureglio

Borgo a Monzzano

Public Transport

Buses

There is a direct bus service between Pisa Airport and Piazzale Verdi, Lucca.  You can buy your ticket at the ticket kiosk in the arrivals hall and you can catch the bus from just outside of the terminal.  The fare is about €5.  From Piazzale Verdi you can probably walk to your hotel if it is within Lucca's city walls.

The last bus from Pisa Airport to Lucca is around 9pm.

Unfortunately there are no buses direct from Pisa Airport to Borgo a Mozzano, so you could always hail a cab from Lucca or thumb a lift from one of your friends.

Trains

Trains run from Pisa Centrale Train Station to Borgo a Mozzano, in most cases via Lucca.

You can get to Pisa Centrale from Pisa Airport using the PisaMover Bus Service.  It has a timetable departure of every 10 minutes and operates every day from 6.00am to 12.00pm, including Sundays and has a journey time of around 8 minutes.  The bus stop is just in front of the Departure Terminal Check in A at Pisa Airport.

From Pisa Centrale, you can then catch trains to Lucca and Borgo a Mozzano.

Single tickets are priced as follows:

€3.40 - Pisa Centrale to Lucca - 27 mins

€5.30 - Pisa Centrale to Borgo a Mozzano - 1 hour

We would recommend that you plan your journey in advance as trains are not too frequent.  See www.trenitalia.com' for more information.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available from outside the airport terminal and we believe that they start from around 30€ per person direct to the villa.  Alternatively, if you want to be sure of what you will pay you can pre-book transfers through sites such www.airports-shuttle-express.com.
